Gearboxes - For AC Motors
Gearboxes For Use With AC Motors
ACDC Drives can supply a complete range of gearmotors, gearboxes, speed variators and all associated parts for your automation applications.
With such a huge range, and so many options available we know it can be difficult to find the exact gearbox sometimes. That's why we have spent a lot of time listing these individually. Use the filters to select the main attributes required for your application, and we are sure you will find what you are looking for.
If you cannot see what you are looking for, don't worry, we can help. Just drop us an email or give us a call on 01905 887 667 and we will send a bespoke quote. We offer ranges to suit all budgets, whether it be for a one-off or bulk buy, we can cater for it.
All of our Universal Motor Gearboxes are built in Italy by Hydro Mec and offer fantastic quality and precision.
Useful Formulas For Calculating Gearbox Loads
Required Power - Rotating
P [KW] =
M [Nm] | n [rpm]
The formulas supplied above can be used to help work out which of the gearboxes supplied by ACDC Drives will suit your application. If you cannot provide all of the required parameters to calculate the loads or torque required, please call us as our engineers have vast experience with all types of application and can usually help fill in the gaps.
What is a 'Motor Gearbox'?
The term 'Geared motor' or 'Motor Gearbox' refers to a combination of a motor plus a reduction gear train. These are often conveniently packaged together in one unit. The gear reduction (gear train) reduces the speed of the motor, with a corresponding increase in torque. Gear ratios range from just a few (e.g. 3) to huge (e.g. 500). A small ratio can be accomplished with a single gear pair, while a large ratio requires a series of gear reduction steps and thus more gears. There are a lot of different kinds of gear reduction, some of which we have described a little below.
Most standard motors are only available in set speeds, these limit the functionality of the motor in certain applications, it also means that the output torque is 'set'. If you require larger amounts of torque but do not have space for a larger motor, a motor-gearbox unit can be used.
AC Motor Gearboxes also allow for far lower rpm to be achieved, for example, one of our 84Q Boxes can be specced to run at 0.5rpm providing an output torque of some 584Nm all from a tiny 0.12kW Motor, impressive I'm sure you would agree!
If you would like even better control or a range of speed but with the additional torque, you may also like to add an Inverter to the mix. This will give you full control of the application and almost limitless options with regards output speeds and torque requirements.
Universal Motors - Gearboxes
(Manufactured in Italy by HydroMec)
- Nitrile Seals
- Premium, High Temperature Seals Fitted To Output Bearings
- Oversized Bearings
- Providing far better support and allowing for continued forward and reverse operation, these bearings are a premium feature, rarely found on standard gearboxes.
- One Piece Alloy-Steel Input and Worm Shaft
- High helix angle worm gears are case hardened, ground, and then the teeth are profiled. This increases drivetrain efficiency and reduces noise.
- Anti-Corrosive Paint Option
- All UM Gearboxes can be specified in an optional RAL 7035 Grey epoxy paint finish, offering even better protection in harsh environments.
- ATEX Zone 1/21 Gearbox
- Any of the Universal Motors Gearboxes can be upgraded to ATEX Zone 1/21 spec as an option. Please see the ATEX category for these gearboxes.
Compact Worm Gearboxes
These worm type gearboxes are super compact and versatile. They offer a modular solution and fit all IEC style AC Motors. We can also supply these compact worm gearboxes with an optional NEMA C type flange if required.
Square Frame Worm Gearboxes
These Square Framed Worm Gearboxes offer modular mounting options, once again with the option to use any IEC motor or NEMA flange. They can be mounted in a variety of orientations. Can be supplied with an input flange or input shaft.
Inline Gearboxes are sometimes referred to as coaxial gearboxes. We offer lightweight normal duty Inline gearboxes with aluminium cases or heavier duty in Cast iron. With a multitude of options on inputs and outputs, if the gearbox you require isn't listed, just call us.
Shaft Mounted Gearboxes
Requiring no foot or additional supports, these gearboxes mount directly to the driven shaft on the IEC or NEMA flange on the motor you are using. These gearboxes negate the need for additional couplings or mounting plates.
Parallel Shaft Gearboxes
Parallel shaft gearboxes allow for a very compact reduction of speed with large torque outputs due to the housing being made of cast iron. These are heavy duty gearboxes used where high loads are likely. Often used with Servo motors they are robust and compact.
Bevel Helical Gearboxes
Our bevel helical gearboxes are available in both aluminium or cast iron. Offering quiet operation and huge torque via a multitude of ratios, these gearboxes suit a wide range of applications and are frequently used due to their torsional stiffness and low backlash.
TEC FCNDK Gearboxes
- Modular Format
- IEC Motors fit as Standard, but FCNDK boxes can also be specced for use with a hand crank.
- Budget Offering
- Great quality at a fantastic price. With premium features like sealed for life bearings as standard.
- Options Available
- Single or Double Output shafts can be supplied, as can torque arms. Wide variety of ratios and sizes.
- Large Range
- The Varvel Range includes Inline, Variators, Planetary, and many more.
- Short Lead Times
- Most standard style gearboxes are available off the shelf, but custom builds are available on short lead times too.
- High Quality
- Utilising the latest Tech, such as CNC the Varvel Gearboxes are designed to give trouble-free and reliable operation.
