What Is a Contactor?

A contactor is an electronically controlled switch used for switching an electrical power circuit, similar to a relay except with much higher current ratings. They come in various forms with different capacities and features. A contactor is not intended to interrupt a short circuit current, the size of them can range from the size of your hand to a meter wide.

When purchasing an Inverter and motor, you may also require a contactor. If you aren't sure, call us and we will assist. Contactors are available in a vast array of sizes and with many options, these incude the input voltage, number of phases, output voltage and type ie. AC or DC. Many of these are available as options within our product pages, so simply select the input voltage and the Supply type and you will be able to fine tune your selection from there.
