Control Techniques Inverters
Control Techniques Drives
Control Techniques, a Nidec brand, are at the front of customer-focused drive technology with and strive to be a market leader in the automation field. With a focus on product reliability and performance, they have designed and produced some market leading drives throughout the past 40 years. With 45 Drive Centers located all around the world, they have adopted technologies that ensure their products are always current.
History of Control Techniques
Founded in 1972 as KTK in Newtown, Wales, CT took their name from the three company founders. Their vision was to provide a new drive that met the needs of the market. The following year they did just that. The KTK 415V DC thyristor drive improved performance, reliability and energy efficiency for motor control.
Control Techniques grew quickly and so did their market presence. Having developed close relationships with their customer base they were able to make a huge leap in product innovations including the Commander AC and the Mentor Drive, the world’s first digital DC drive. In that same year, the brand became known as Control Techniques.
With more and more feedback coming in through the customer base, the overwhelming request was for a solution to be designed that would provide a single programmable drive that could run open-loop, closed-loop, and servo. From this the first intelligent drive; the Unidrive was born. Not only did the Unidrive control any motor, it could communicate with a broad range of fieldbus. This allowed CT customers the freedom to improve their systems without changing the entire solution. Onboard intelligence made it possible to program the drives, giving greater control and enabling new possibilities.
In 1995 Control Techniques joined Emerson. CT's high performance systems found their niche; where failure wasn’t an option, you would usually find a Control Techniques drive. Crane systems, elevators, stage, high performance automation OEMs and factories all specified Control Techniques. Unidrive M, Digitax ST, and Mentor MP took the risk out of industrial breakdown.
Fast-forward to 2016, in Kyoto, Japan. The Nidec Corporation, the world’s largest motor producer saw the possibilities of Control Techniques' customer-focused technology. Eager to build high performance drive control into their business, they began talks. In February 2017 Control Techniques joined the Nidec Corporation. They are now part of operations in over 40 countries, connected to approximately 300 companies who employ over 110,000 people.
